The one-year PG Diploma in Health Communication at the University of Hyderabad         (initiative under UGC Innovative Programmes Scheme aims to create professionals who can help the healthcare sector achieve maximum impact through effective and strategic use of communication.

UNICEF meet on C4D curriculum

 
Dr.Kanchan K. Malik attended a three-day consultation on Communication For Development Curriculum conducted by UNICEF at Ahmedabad between April 26 & 28, 2012.  The intention of UNICEF is to develop a curriculum platform that is versatile and flexible enough to be used in different academic contexts and to be implemented at undergraduate and post graduate level as well as adaptable to extension courses in india. It will include a selected package of relevant and up-dated background readings compiled and accessible to all academic partners. The Department is collaborating with UNICEF in developing the capacities of teachers interested  in taking up C4D for teaching at the PG level.

 


UNESCO Chair on Community Media set up at the department
 
Prof. Vinod Pavarala, Dean, Sarojini Naidu School of Arts & Communication, University of Hyderabad has been chosen to be the first ever UNESCO Chair on Community Media. 
 

The prestigious Chair, which is the first of its kind anywhere in the world, comes in recognition of Prof. Pavarala’s work in the last decade on community radio.  His research and writings, including the book, Other Voices: the struggle for community radio in India, has contributed to the opening up of airwaves in India.  He has also been the founder-President of the Community Radio Forum of India, a collective of civil society organizations, activists, and other advocates of community radio in the country.

 
The Chair would operate as a liaison among the communities, media activists, academia and policymakers while, simultaneously undertaking research and documentation of best practices in the country and capacity sharing with the community members.  UNESCO link on the chair.

 

 


Department produces 'How To' videos for SMEs in Kenya
 
The Audio-Visual Documentation Resource Unit (AVDRU) of the department recently produced a set of 150 instructional videos to aid SMEs reduce their run time in Kenya. The videos were produced as part of a project commissioned by Iridium Interactive for its portal, KuzaBiashara.
